Food Court in Passeig de Gràcia

A big hole strategically placed in the middle.

The owners of the hotel to be built on the corner of Passeig de Gràcia and Casp St, replacing the Novedades Cinema, had various uses for the main local, in the Ground floor. Including the possibility of building a delicatessen market, a gourmet coin of luxury products, focused on tourism. The problem is how to explain the passerby that what is on the ground floor is just a claim and that very much part of the local unfold in the basement. This raises the project to open a big hole, strategically placed in the middle, so that from the street, you can get the perception of the whole area. A double-height totem reinforce that idea. The ground floor is raised to facilitate and allow that vision and to gain more height in the basement, no blind spots … The square meters that are “lost”, opening the whole are recovered optimizing circulations and relocating the toilettes in the basement, to the point of end earning more square meters of retail area. The logic of trade is relentless about it.
