Palau Macaya

The project respects the original architecture of the building, and creates a dialogue with it.

All ancient building with no use damage and deteriorate. Buildings becomes older if we don’t use them than with a continued use. With the intention to recuperate the ancient “Palau Macaya”, a landmark constructed by Puig i Cadafalch in the beginning of the XX century, The “Fundación La Caixa” (the organism that makes the social policy of the most important Catalan bank) pretended to recuperate the building that housed them till 20 years ago, when they move out, and so to liberate the 4.000 ㎡ of an office bulging that right now they occupy at the Diagonal of Barcelona. The project not only must be respectful with the original architecture of the building (an heritage of Modernism period) but try to dialogue with him, solving a very complex and changing program and to foresee the futures growing of the different departments. The project includes the construction of two new offices buildings in Roger de Flor St, in the other side of the block, and the total refurbishment of the inner courtyard for public users. The crisis doesn’t allow starting the works (the project stills remains standby).
