A 16th-century patio had to fit into the project.
The project (12.000 ㎡) got rather complicated right when work was about to begin on this renovation of a former Michelin tire warehouse into the company’s corporate headquarters. The owners bought a 16th-century patio which had to be fit into the project in the central position it merited, forcing us to reconfigure everything. Thus a half-floor was dug beneath the building and another floor above was enlarged to be able to match the height of such a unique piece. All the floors are arranged around the patio. A skylight, with nearly 100 ㎡ of glass, is suspended on glass ribs return the patio the exterior condition it once had. The building has safety vaults, an extensive fleet of armored cars, gymnasium, archery room and offices in one of the most complex programs we have ever faced. Putting all these uses together independently was another of the difficulties.
